Birmingham Country Dance Society
For over 13 years, the this group of folks have been kicking up their heels in Birmingham. One Saturday night of the month will be the "main" dance, either at the YWCA,2300 3rd Ave N, or at South Highland Presbyterian Church which is located on the historic Southside of Birmingham, Alabama at the corner of Highland Avenue and 21st Street South.. The Saturday night dance often features out of town bands and callers, so the cost is $5-$6. Every August, BCDS hosts a dance weekend in Mentone, Alabama. The camp is small, and berths at this weekend are much sought after in the region! For current info, look at the schedule for BCDS dances. BCDS puts out a newsletter each month, featuring area information, and the opportunity to "Ask Ms. Joyce" questions about dancing, dance etiquette, dance problems, or other areas of dance life that need elucidating. Ms. Joyce is even on line, and can be reached at jcauthen@waonline.com. She is a good source for information on BCDS in all its endeavors, also. If e-mail won't do, you can call Jim or Joyce Cauthen at (205)822-0505. BCDS is an official member of the Country Dance and Song Society.
